Gwanda State University (GSU) joined universities and library leaders from across Zimbabwe and beyond at the 6th Zimbabwe University Libraries Consortium (ZULC) Biennial Conference, held from 7–9 July 2026 at Manna Resorts, Harare. The conference, held under the theme “Navigating the Digital Frontier: Transforming Library Services for Tomorrow,” explored the evolving role of academic libraries in advancing digital learning, research, and innovation.
Representing GSU were the University Librarian and Sub-Librarian, with the University Librarian also serving as a member of the ZULC 2026 Conference Organising Committee, contributing to the successful coordination of the landmark event.
The conference brought together higher education stakeholders to deliberate on emerging trends shaping the future of academic libraries, including Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Open Science, research data management, digital scholarship, cybersecurity, and innovative approaches to enhancing user experiences. Discussions highlighted the need for libraries to evolve into technology-enabled knowledge and innovation hubs that support teaching, research, and national development.
A key highlight of the conference was the handover of assistive technologies to ZULC member universities, an initiative aimed at promoting inclusive access to information. The technologies, including adaptive devices and accessibility solutions, will support students and researchers with disabilities, strengthening the commitment of universities towards equitable and inclusive education.
Through its participation at ZULC 2026, GSU continues to strengthen collaboration, embrace global best practices, and position its Library as a catalyst for digital transformation, research visibility, and innovation in support of the University’s Heritage-Based Education 5.0 agenda and Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 aspirations.
