Gwanda State University (GSU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Xavier Poshiwa as Pro Vice-Chancellor – Administration and Academic Affairs, and Mr Phillip Ndhlovu as University Librarian.

Dr Xavier Poshiwa – Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Academic Affairs)

Dr Poshiwa is an accomplished academic, researcher and innovator with more than 14 years of experience in university administration, research, and academic programme development. He holds a PhD in Rangeland Ecology from Wageningen University in the Netherlands, an MSc in Animal Sciences, and a BSc Honours Degree in Agriculture from the University of Zimbabwe.

He previously served as Executive Dean of Agriculture and Engineering at Great Zimbabwe University, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the Innovation Centre for Dryland Agriculture (ICEDA). A prolific scholar, he has authored 43 peer-reviewed journal articles, books and book chapters, and holds several registered industrial designs and patent applications. As Pro Vice-Chancellor, he provides strategic leadership in academic excellence, institutional governance, and innovation.

Mr Phillip Ndhlovu – University Librarian

Appointed University Librarian with effect from 1 July 2026, Mr Ndhlovu is a library and information science professional with over 15 years of experience in academic librarianship, scholarly communication, and open science. He holds a First-Class Master of Science Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Library and Information Science, and serves on the Executive Committee of the Zimbabwe University Libraries Consortium (ZULC).

He previously served as GSU’s Deputy Librarian from 2022 to 2026, and has held professional positions at the National University of Science and Technology, the University of Zimbabwe, and Africa University.
