Vice-Chancellor Professor DZ Moyo has urged the newly elected Student Executive Council (SEC) to help the University in creating a free drug and substance zone at Epoch Mine campus.
Speaking during the inauguration of the fourteen (14) members into the 2023-2024 Student Executive Council, Professor D Z Moyo reiterated that the University is working closely with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Gwanda State University Security Department to create a drug and substance free zone.
“We want to create a free drug zone at Epoch Mine Campus that will ensure safety for our students”, said Professor DZ Moyo.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police representative from Filabusi Constable Munsaka also restated that they have no tolerance to drug abuse.
He added that the side effects of drugs included but not limited to academic difficulties and a decrease in discipline levels.
Professor DZ Moyo also added that SEC was expected to lead by example.
“SEC is also expected to work in harmony with the Dean of students as well as engaging in dialogue for a mutual benefit outcome”, she alluded.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the new SEC for embracing gender balance.
