2. DEPARTMENT OF METALLURGICAL ENGINEERING

The technological advancement in metallurgical engineering in the materials and mineral beneficiation industry require engineers to gain advanced specialized knowledge in metallurgical engineering and mineral processing. The specialized fundamental knowledge will respond to the National Development Strategies such as vision 2030 by contributing to a vibrant mining industry through value addition and mineral beneficiation. The program will promote the “study in Zimbabwe” programme, which will enhance local university infrastructure and enhance technical research and projects meant to solve local and international challenges.
The BEng programme is meant to provide the students with appropriate theoretical inputs and opportunities for hands-on training. The degree program prepares students to become worthy of professional careers in the field and to be motivated for lifelong learning. It is dedicated to equip students with the design, implementation, testing, and modification skills in metallurgical systems in a bid to improve effectiveness, efficiency and maintainability. The five-year BEng degree program is premised on research and innovation, rooted in heritage –based learning. In pursuit of this mandate the curriculum emphasizes the principles and applications of modern metallurgical, mineral processing and value addition techniques to fully enhance technical cognition while developing the ability to put knowledge into practice for the benefit of mankind.
