    DEPARTMENT OF GEOMATICS AND SURVEYING

     

    Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/Full Professor (3 Posts)

     

    Applicants must have a BSc (Hons) in Surveying or Geomatics and Surveying and an MSc Degree in Surveying or Geomatics and Surveying. Possession of a PhD in Surveying or Geomatics and Surveying will be an added advantage. The candidate should be able to teach Engineering Survey, Mine Survey, Cadastral Survey, Surveying CAD.

    DEPARTMENT OF METALLURGICAL ENGINEERING

     

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Full Professor (3 Posts)

     

    Applicants must have at least a BSc (Hons) Degree in Metallurgy or Mineral Processing Engineering, and an MSc Degree in Metallurgy or Mineral Processing Engineering or Metallurgy specific disciplines. Possession of a PhD will be an added advantage. The candidate must be able to teach the following courses: Hydrometallurgy, Computer Applications in Metallurgy, Physical Metallurgy, Pyrometallurgy, Fuels, Energy and Environment.

    DEPARTMENT OF MINING ENGINEERING

     

    Post 1: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Full Professor in Mining Engineering (3 Posts)

     

    The applicants must have BSc (Hons) in Mining Engineering and MSc Degree in Mining Engineering or Mining Engineering specific disciplines. Possession of a PhD Degree is an added advantage. The candidate must be able to teach the following courses: Rock Engineering, Mine Management, Mine Design, Mining Laboratories, Mine Ventilation, Excavation Engineering, Computer Applications in Mining. 

     

     

    Post 2: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Full Professor in Mechanical Engineering/ Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (1 Post) 

      The applicants must have BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering and MSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering specific disciplines. Possession of a PhD Degree is an added advantage. The candidate must be able to teach the following courses: Engineering Drawing, Engineering Communication Skills, Workshop Practice, Engineering Fluid Mechanics.

    VACANCY NOTICE:  VICE-CHANCELLOR 

     
    • Gwanda State University (GSU) was established in 2016 with a mandate to specialise in Animal Science, Irrigation Engineering and Management, Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Ecosystem Restoration. To achieve its mission and strategic goals GSU seeks to fill the position of Vice- Chancellor. The University is currently operating from Epoch Mine Campus in Filabusi.
     
    • The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer of the University whose mandate is to provide institutional leadership and oversight, develop and drive the vision, mission, strategy and act as the chief advocate, and principal ambassador of the University. He or she reports to the University Council.
    2 PERSON SPECIFICATION
     

    The candidate should possess the following key competencies:

    2.1 Be a visionary leader with the skills to interpret and implement the University’s Education 5.0 mandate within the broader context of the national agenda.

    2.2 Be a holder of an earned Doctorate Degree in a Science or Engineering discipline from a recognized University. A Full or Associate Professorship would be an advantage.

    2.3 Be an accomplished Higher Education Administrator with a proven track record for creating a technological, innovative learning, teaching and research environment to produce high end skills.

    2.4 Have at least 10 years experience of working with a high degree of success, in a senior position in a Tertiary or Higher Education or Research Institution;

    2.5 Have commitment to and substantial experience in networking, team building, fundraising/ resource mobilization and participation in development activities, nationally, regionally and internationally;

    2.6 Have a demonstrable capacity to match the University’s Research and Development output as well as enterprise development benefits to industry;

    2.7 Be able to identify, and promote the development and commercialization of emerging technologies to advance Zimbabwe’s industrialization and modernization agenda;

    2.8 Have proven experience in national and international policy-making;

    2.9 Have demonstrable knowledge of the structural, legislative, and regulatory frameworks for managing higher education, innovation, science and technology development;

    2.10 Have proven management capacity including knowledge of public financial management, strategic people management and be able to generate financial support from both private and public sectors,

    2.11 Have the ability to foster strategic partnerships and harmonious working relationships between and among various University stakeholders, staff, students, public and private organisations;

    2.12 Should be at least 40 years of age at the time of application.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    He or she will be the chief administrative and financial officer of the University and shall:

    3.1 Provide visionary and strategic leadership to the University, maintain and govern the Institution;

    3.2 Initiate, propose, implement and monitor policies systems and procedures in relation to all learning, research, innovation and administrative programmes of the University.

    3.3 Lead the development activities of the University, including fundraising and ensuring a high reputation and ranking of the University’s learning, research, innovation and industrialisation programmes;

    3.4 Shall ensure that the University provides technological and engineering solutions to the surrounding community and the nation at large;

    3.5 Develop and maintain positive and progressive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including the Council, the Senate, Faculties, community and national leaders.

    3.6 Attract the best high-end skills for the University’s teaching, research and innovation and provide an enabling environment for the creation of technology driven start-ups and incubation of industries to generate income for the University and employment for its graduates;

    3.7 Ensure that the University has a diversified or mixed international students body and faculties;

    3.8 Ensure that the University has a state of the art cultural recreation and sporting facilities;

    REMUNERATION & CONDITIONS OF SERVICES

     

    The University offers;
