      1.                  FACULTY OF LIFE SCIENCES

       

      1.1              DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL SCIENCE

      1.1.1.      Teaching Assistant (1 Post) Qualifications

      ·         Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Animal Science or related fields.

      1.2              DEPARTMENT OF CROP SCIENCE

      1.2.1.      Technician (1 Post) Qualifications

      ·         A Diploma in Agriculture.

      ·         The applicants must have at least three (3) years post qualification experience in crop production and/or research.

      Applicants must have a BSc (Hons) in Surveying or Geomatics and Surveying and an MSc Degree in Surveying or Geomatics and Surveying. Possession of a PhD in Surveying or Geomatics and Surveying will be an added advantage. The candidate should be able to teach Engineering Survey, Mine Survey, Cadastral Survey, Surveying CAD.

       

      2.2              DEPARTMENT OF METALLURGICAL ENGINEERING

      Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Full Professor (3 Posts)

      Applicants must have at least a BSc (Hons) Degree in Metallurgy or Mineral Processing Engineering, and an MSc Degree in Metallurgy or Mineral Processing Engineering or Metallurgy specific disciplines. Possession of a PhD will be an added advantage. The candidate must be able to teach the following courses: Hydrometallurgy, Computer Applications in Metallurgy, Physical Metallurgy, Pyrometallurgy, Fuels, Energy and Environment.

       

      2.3              DEPARTMENT OF MINING ENGINEERING

      2.3.1.      Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Full Professor in Mining Engineering (3 Posts)

      The applicants must have BSc (Hons) in Mining Engineering and MSc Degree in Mining Engineering or Mining Engineering specific disciplines. Possession of a PhD Degree is an added advantage. The candidate must be able to teach the following courses: Rock Engineering, Mine Management, Mine Design, Mining Laboratories, Mine Ventilation, Excavation Engineering, Computer Applications in Mining.

       

      2.3.2.      Technician/Senior Technician (1 Post) Qualifications

      ·         National Diploma (ND) in Mining Engineering

      ·         Higher National Diploma (HND) will be an added advantage.

      ·         At least three (3) years post qualification experience in the mining field.

      ·         Set, design and demonstrate mining engineering practicals.

                                             Qualifications

        ·         Must be a PhD holder.

                                             Experience and Qualities

        ·         Two  (2)   years   experience  in  Teaching,  Research   and   Community engagement.

        ·         Five (5) years at senior management level such as a Dean of Faculty or Chairperson of a Department.

        ·         Demonstrate leadership experience in higher education quality promotion and assurance.

        ·         Evidence of in-depth and extensive knowledge of tertiary education and related quality assurance policies, processes and issues.

        ·         Evidence of competence in qualitative and quantitative data analysis and excellent report writing skills.

        Duties and Responsibilities

        ·         Oversee the implementation of the university quality assurance policy and strategic plan to achieve the objectives of the university quality

                                            Qualifications

        ·         A  first  degree  in  Purchasing  and  Supply  Chain  Management  or equivalent.

              Qualifications

        ·         A  Higher  National  Diploma  in  Information  Technology/Computer Science/Electronics or a

        ·         A Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science/Electronics or equivalent.


             Experience and Qualities

                                          ·         Three (3) years post qualification experience for a holder of Higher National Diploma.

        ·       Applicants must have experience in both hardware and software maintenance as well as possess knowledge of any engineering software application and windows/linux

         

              based operating systems.

         

            Duties and Responsibilities

        ·         Providing first line Information Technology related support to staff members and students.

         

        ·         Installation of requisite software and maintenance/servicing of IT equipment.

         

        ·         Oversee the daily operations of computer laboratories and maintain inventory.

         2.                  DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL PLANNING, WORKS AND ESTATES

        2.1.            Assistant Builder/Builder (1 Post)

        Qualifications

        ·         Must be a holder of Class 1 or Class 2 Journeyman card.

        ·         National Certificate in Bricklaying from a recognised institution will be a distinct advantage.

        ·         Should have a minimum of two (2) years relevant experience.

        Duties and Responsibilities

                                                   ·         Construction or renovation of buildings/ structures conforming to approved building plan. (Approved by Local Authority)

                                                 •      Ensuring quality output during the construction or renovation of building/structures.

        ·         Maintain and repair structures as assigned by the supervisor.

        ·         Leading a team of casual labourers on assigned site.

        ·         Assembling,    erecting    and   de-assembling    of   scaffolding    on construction site.

        ·         Follow and enforce strict safety regulations such as wearing heat- resistant gloves, protective masks and safety shoes.

        ·         Weld components in flat, vertical and overhead positions.

        3.                  REGISTRAR’S DEPARTMENT

                                Qualifications

               Experience and Qualities

        ·         For first degree holders a minimum of five years relevant experience. At least three years must be post qualification experience preferably in a University setting.

         

        ·         For Masters degree holders a minimum of three years relevant experience. At least two years must be post qualification experience preferably in a University setting.

             Duties and Responsibilities

        ·         To be in charge of student recruitment, admissions and registration.

        ·         Design,  distribute  and  receive  application  forms  in  collaboration  with Deputy Registrar, Academic Affairs.

                                                  ·         A minimum of one (1) year relevant post qualification experience. 

                                                  ·         Must have analytical, problem solving and coordinating skills.

                                 Duties and Responsibilities

                                                  ·         Collect orders for stocking and distribution.

                                                  ·         Ensure supplied stocks meet demand.

                   4.2.            Assistant Accountant (2 Posts)

                   Qualifications

                                                  ·         A first Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent and

                                 Experience and Qualities

        ·         A minimum of three (3) years post qualification experience preferably in a university setting.

        ·         Working knowledge of accounting related computer packages (e.g. Pastel, Paywell, Excel) and meticulous attention to detail. 

        ·         High level of professionalism and integrity. 

        ·         Skill in performing detailed and complex numerical computation reports. 

        ·         Good interpersonal communication and documentation skills.

         

                                Duties and Responsibilities

        ·         Preparing, examining and analyzing accounting records for accuracy and completeness.

        ·         Maintaining financial security by following internal controls. 

        ·         Preparing Payroll.

        ·         Preparation of financial reports and reconciliations ensuring conformance to reporting and procedural standards.

        ·         Advises Deputy Bursar as to procedures concerning expenditures and other accounting practices.

        ·         Researches, analyses, and uses independent judgment in a variety of daily and non-routine decisions affecting assigned function.

        5.                  STUDENT AFFAIRS DIVISION

                      5.1.            Catering Manager (1 Post)

                                   

                                    Qualifications

                                                  ·         A degree in Hotel and Catering or equivalent and,

        ·         A  professional  qualification  in  Hotel  and  Catering  or  equivalent  is essential or 

        ·         A Masters degree in Hotel and Catering or equivalent and

        ·         A professional qualification in Hotel and  Catering or equivalent is  an added advantage.

         

                                     Experience and Qualities

                                                  ·         For first degree holders a minimum of two (2) years relevant experience. At least one year must be post qualification experience preferably in a University setting.

                                                  ·         For Masters degree holders a minimum of one year relevant experience. 

                                                  ·         Ability to interact or communicate effective with people from various social classes.

                                                  ·         Ability to stand and walk for up to eight hours a day.

                                                  ·         Ability to tolerate temperature extremes and fluctuations.

                                      Duties and Responsibilities

                                                  ·         Leadership and Supervision; Superintending over all food provision outlets in the University.

        ·         Cost Control; Oversee food ordering, supplies, maintenance and labour costs to ensure that the canteen remains profitable 

         

        ·         Food Safety; Ensure that the canteen abides by food safety requirements. Monitor FIFO inventories and visually inspect food deliveries and preparation activities.

         

        ·         Detail Orientation; Manage the complex details of scheduling, shift swaps, product inventory, cleaning schedules and unannounced health inspections.

         

        ·         Accounting; Ensure adequate cash-in receipts and POS systems and run daily reports.

         

                                   5.2  Nurse Aide (2 Posts)

         

                                   Qualifications

                                               ·         Five (5) Ordinary Level passes including English Language.

                                               ·         Computer literacy is an added advantage

                                               ·         Must possess at least a Primary Care Nursing Certificate with valid practising certificate or Nurse Aide certificate or valid Red Cross certificate.

                                   Experience and Qualities

                                               ·         Six (6) months post qualification experience in a related environment.

                                               ·         Good interpersonal skills.

                                               ·         Knowledge of first Aid techniques.

                                               ·         Team player.

                                  Duties and Responsibilities

        ·         Provide basic nursing care to University employees, students and nearby community.

        ·         Damp dust the rooms and carbolise beds and equipment to maintain a safe environment for patients. 

        ·         Prepare dressing packs for autoclaving. 

        ·         Do observations and collect data. 

        ·         Monitor patients progress and report.

        ·         Linen management - sluice disinfect record linen and take it to the laundry and receive back. 

        ·         Keep departmental records.

         

        6.                  LIBRARY DEPARTMENT

                 6.1.            Chief Library Assistant (1 Post) Qualifications

                                                       ·         Higher National Diploma in Library and Information Science.

                                                       ·         A degree in Library and Information Science will be an added advantage.

                              Experience and Qualities

                                                       ·         At least one (1) year post qualification experience.

                                                       ·         Exposure to University library environment is an added advantage.

                                                       ·         Ability to pay attention to detail and a team player.

                                                       ·         Knowledge of RDA is an added advantage.

                              Duties and Responsibilities

                                                       ·         Cataloguing and processing of educational resources using the Library’s automated system.

             ·         Ensuring Library standards and guidelines when classifying materials are followed.

         

                                                       Ensuring all Library materials can be retrieved conveniently using standardised indexing methods.

                 Verify call numbers and subject headings using appropriate tools.

                Supervise the printing and application of spine labels as by Library Assistants.

          

                6.2.            Library Assistant (Client Services - 1 Post)


         Qualifications

        ·         National Certificate in Library and Information Science.

        ·         Diploma in Library and Information Science is an added advantage.

                             Experience and Qualities

        ·         Two (2) years post qualification experience.

        ·         Exposure to University library environment is an added advantage.

        ·         Good customer care and communication skills.

         

        Duties and Responsibilities

        ·         Shelve library materials daily.

        ·         Shelf-read library materials at least twice a day and more often when necessary.

        ·         Assist users to locate and retrieve material on the shelves and online.

        ·         Issue, return and renew library materials.

        ·         Participate in stocktaking of all library materials.

        ·         Collect library materials left on tables in the library for shelving.

        ·         Any other duties assigned by the Assistant Librarian

                           6.3.         ICT Technician: Library Systems Services (1 Post)

                                         Qualifications

        ·         A  minimum  of  a  Higher  National  Diploma  (HND)  in  Computer Science/Information Systems.

        ·         A Degree in Information Systems or Computer Science is an added advantage.

        ·         Professional certification will be an added advantage.

         

              Experience and Qualities

        ·         A minimum of two (2) years post qualification experience

        ·         Exposure working in a University setting will be an added advantage

        ·         Working knowledge of various library software and applications as well as basic maintenance of computer hardware.

        Duties and Responsibilities

        ·         Install and maintain library systems and software (KOHA, DSPACE, e-resources platform and library webpage)

         

        ·         Train  library  staff  and  students  in  the  use  of  various  computer packages and systems use.

        ·         Perform regular maintenance of library computers.

        ·         Perform stock control and asset listing of all library hardware.

        ·         Be prepared to work flexible hours or perform shift work during term time to ensure uninterrupted IT support to students.
