Bachelor of Engineering Honours Degree in Geometics and Surveying

Geomatics is the integrated approach to measurement, analysis, and management of spatial data. Graduates are employed by government and private organizations in surveying and mapping positions, as well as other facets of collecting, analyzing, and using spatial data. Geomatics has applications in all disciplines which depend on spatial data, including forestry, environmental studies, planning, engineering, navigation, geology, and geophysics. Students majoring in Geomatics focus on Surveying, Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry, Cartography, Geographic Information Systems, Property or Cadastral Studies and Global Positioning.

 

Entry Qualifications

Normal Entry:

Passes in at least 5 subjects at Ordinary Level at grade C or better including English Language and Mathematics.
Advanced Level passes in Physics and any one of the following subjects; Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Technical Graphics, Engineering Drawing.

Students without A Level Mathematics will be required to take a bridging module in mathematics.

Special Entry:

A person who has obtained a Diploma in Geomatics and Surveying or equivalent with a minimum of two years post qualification experience.

Students who apply for admission under this regulation may be required to attend interviews and/or special tests at the University to determine their suitability for admission to the Bachelor’s degree studies.

 

Mature Entry:
Persons who are at least 25 years of age on the first day of the academic year in which admission is sought and who are not eligible for entry under the Normal or Special Entry Regulations may apply for Mature Entry provided that
Applicants must have passed at least five approved “O” level subjects including English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent) and must have demonstrated potential suitability for university studies by virtue of their attainments and/or relevant work experience.


Normally, applicants should have completed their full-time school or college education at least five years before the start of the academic year in which admission is sought. 
Students who apply for admission under this regulation may be required to attend interviews and/or special tests at the University to determine their suitability for admission to the Bachelor’s degree studies.

Upon completion of this study programme the Geomatics and Surveying graduates can expect to be absorbed and employed in the following industries and sectors; Air navigation services, Archaeological excavation and survey for GIS applications, Coastal zone management and mapping, Criminology , Disaster informatics for disaster risk reduction and response, nfrastructure management, Land management and reform, Natural resources monitoring and development , Seismic interpretation, Sociology , Subdivision planning, Urban planning, Oceanography, Meteorology, Parks, Climate change/ Environmental management and Provide data base centres for small scale mining
