        1.       BURSAR’S DEPARTMENT

            1.1 Deputy Bursar (1 Post)

                  Qualifications

        • Applicants must be holders of, in the first instance, an Accounting Degree and should, in addition hold an MBA (Finance and Accounting) or MSc in Accounting or equivalent, in a business related discipline.
        • A professional qualification (C.A, C.I.M.A. or equivalent) will be an added advantage. 

         

          Experience and Qualities

        • A minimum of five years relevant experience. At least two years must be post qualification experience, preferably at a University setting.
        • Candidates should have a sound knowledge of standard accounting principles and practices, strategic planning, budgeting and budgetary control, working knowledge of computerized accounting systems and income tax laws.
        • Candidates should have functioned at Principal Accountant level or equivalent in either the public or private sector.

         

        Duties and Responsibilities

        • Developing robust financial management and reporting processes in order to ensure timely and accurate preparation of consolidated monthly management accounts and audited annual financial statements;
        • Provide oversight on financial management, students' accounts section, salaries and banking liaison;
        • Ensure all monthly reconciliations are performed timely and accurately;
        • Taking full responsibility of the budgetary control system from development of assumptions to the management of consumption;
        • Ensuring all registered students are billed immediately after registration and that all business activities are properly accounted;
        • Carrying out investment appraisals and allocation of capital;
        • Fostering effective communication and developing impeccable relations with all key internal and external stakeholders;
        • Effectively using the Human Resources Policies of the University to actively manage all subordinates and ensuring full cooperation;
        • Guaranteeing excellence in serving the University's stakeholders by providing support to subordinates and ensuring their continued professional development;
        • Prepare timely and reasonably accurate cash flow and financial forecasts;
        • Undertaking other duties as assigned by the Bursar.

         

        1.2.  Assistant Accountant (1 Post)

        Qualifications

        • A first Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
        • A Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent and a professional qualification such as a Diploma in Accounting or equivalent is an added advantage. 

         

        Experience and Qualities

        • Have a minimum of two years post qualification experience.
        • Working knowledge of accounting related computer packages (e.g. Pastel, Paywell, Excel) and meticulous attention to detail.
        • High level of professionalism and integrity.
        • Skill in performing detailed and complex numerical computations and reports.
        • Good interpersonal communication and documentation skills. 

         

         Duties and Responsibilities

        • Supervises activities of subordinates.
        • Preparing, examining, and analyzing accounting records for accuracy and completeness.
        • Maintaining financial security by following internal controls.
        • Preparing Payroll.
        • Prepares financial reports and reconciliation ensuring conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
        • Advises administrative management as to procedures concerning expenditures and other accounting practices.
        • Maintains accounting and budget records.
        • Researches, analyzes, and uses independent judgment in a variety of daily and non-routine decisions affecting assigned function.
        • Reviews statements of accounting information and other reports provided by the university general ledger system.

         

        2. LIBRARY DEPARTMENT

        Deputy Librarian (1 Post)

        Qualifications

        • A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science.
        • A first degree in Library and Information Science is a MUST.
        • Membership to a relevant professional Library and Information Science body.
        • Evidence of research publications in Library and Information Science.

         

        Experience and Qualities

        • Have at least three (3) years post Master’s Degree qualification experience in a University Library setting at an Assistant Librarian or Sub-Librarian position.
        • Demonstrable evidence of exposure to international Library and Information Science field.
        • Have knowledgeable and proficiency in the application of current ICTs in library and information services delivery.
        • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various constituencies as a team player.
        • Good leadership, supervisory, digital literacy and communication skills. Duties and Responsibilities
        • Assist in the defining, development of library policies, implementation of strategic goals and objectives of the library.
        • Oversee overall library operations in terms of staffing, reports and operationalization of library strategic plans.
        • Participate in University administration and various Committees.
        • Engage/negotiate with e-resources service providers.
        • Working closely with Deans of Faculties and Information and Communication Technology Department to ensure easy access to electronic resources and research support services for teaching, learning, research, and administrative activities of the University.
        • Recommending new technologies in order to improve library services .
        • Coordinating the implementing of all the Library training programmes including Information Literacy Skills, Marketing Services, and Institutional Research Output.
        • Assisting in mobilising resources for the library.
        • Assisting in managing risks in the Library.
        • Supervising staff and conducting periodic staff performance evaluations.

         

        3. DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL PLANNING, WORKS AND ESTATES UNIT 

        3.1. Deputy Director, Physical, Planning Works and Estates (1 Post)

         

        Qualifications

        • A first degree in any one of the following: Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
        • A Masters degree in any one of the following: Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and an MBA is an added advantage.
        • A professional qualification in Project Management is essential.
        • Registered with an appropriate professional body.

         

        Experience and Qualities

        • For first degree holders a minimum of eight years relevant experience. At least five years must be post qualification experience in Construction Project Management.
        • For Masters degree holders a minimum of four years relevant experience. At least two years must be post qualification experience in Construction Project Management.
        • Proven track record in project management.
        • Working knowledge of budgeting and budget controls.
        • Good report writing and interpersonal skills.

         

        Duties and Responsibilities

        • Develop and oversee the implementation of the University’s Campus Development Plans.
        • Advise the Vice-Chancellor on the most appropriate and beneficial strategies to be adopted for both designing and building projects.
        • Draw up and administer the annual departmental budget and oversee the purchase and storage of materials and spares for infrastructure, construction and maintenance, including vehicles.
        • Manage renovations and maintenance programmes of buildings, other infrastructure (electrical, sewage and water reticulation systems as well as roads), sporting and recreation facilities.
        • Oversee preparation and negotiation of contracts, leases, deeds, mortgages, and other real estate property legal documents on behalf of the University and recommend the acquisition and disposition of real estate properties, ensuring adherence to the University’s campus master plan.

        3.2 Construction Foreman (six months contract)

        Qualifications

        • A journeyman class 1 in bricklaying.
        • A qualification in Civil Engineering or related field will be an added advantage.

        Experience and Qualities

        • At least five (5) years post qualification experience in the construction industry.
        • Ability to work under pressure.
        • Ability to keep track of multiple projects.
        • In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment and OSH guidelines.
        • Understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems.
        • Ability to read drawings, plans and blueprints.
        • Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
        • Ability to communicate and report effectively.
        • Aptitude in mathematics.
        • Problem-solving abilities.

        Duties and Responsibilities

        • Coordinate tasks according to priorities and plans.
        • Ensure that teams work together to deliver quality to strict deadlines.
        • Produce schedules and monitor attendance of crew.
        • Allocate general and daily responsibilities.
        • Ensure manpower and resources are adequate.
        • Guarantee all safety precautions and quality standards are met.
        • Supervise the use of machinery and equipment.
        • Monitor expenditure and ensure it remains within budget.
        • Resolve construction problems when they arise.
        • Report on progress to Projects Officer etc.

        3.3 Plumber and Drain layer (1 Post)

        Qualifications

        • Five (5) ‘O’ levels including English language and Mathematics.
        • National Certificate in Plumbing and Drain laying from HEXCO/equivalent.
        • Journeyman Class 1, apprenticeship trained.

         

        Experience and Qualities

        • Three (3) years experience as a Plumber and Drain layer in a reputable organisation.
        • Good knowledge of water supply, wastewater and heating.
        • Multi-tasking skills, good arithmetical and analytical skills.
        • Observant and thorough.
        • Physical dexterity.
        • Ability to work in constricted areas.

         

        Duties and Responsibilities

        • Fitting and preparing, reading and interpreting blueprints to assess or plan plumbing installations and layouts.
        • Installing, maintaining and repairing plumbing systems and fixtures for water and sewer systems.  Repairing various household appliances.
        • Inspection and testing plumbing systems for safety, functionality, and code compliance.
        • Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay water and sewer pipes and moving and lifting heavy objects.
        • Troubleshooting and resolving problems.
        • Performing departmental duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.
        • Preparing cost estimates.

        3.4 Electrician (1 Post)

        Qualifications

        • Five (5) ‘O’ levels including English language and Mathematics.
        • National Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering from HEXCO/Equivalent
        • Journeyman Class 1, apprenticeship trained.

         

        Experience and Qualities

        • Three (3) years experience as an electrician in a reputable organisation.
        • Multi tasking skills, good arithmetical and analytical skills.
        • Observant and thorough.
        • Ability to work in constricted areas.

         

        Duties and Responsibilities 

        • Install and maintain wiring, control, and lighting systems.
        • Conversion of florescent tubes to LED tubes.
        • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
        • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
        • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components (transformers and circuit breakers) to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
        • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
        • Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services.
        • Perform department duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.
        • Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects.
        • Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights and generators, placing flares.
        • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
        • Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring or equipment.

         

        3.5 Bricklayers (10 Posts) (six months contract)

        Qualifications

        • Five (5) ‘O’ levels including English language and Mathematics.
        • National Certificate in Bricklaying from HEXCO or equivalent.
        • Journeyman Class 1, apprenticeship trained.

        Experience and Qualities

        • Should have a minimum of two (2) years post qualification experience.
        • Be a team player.
        • Be goal oriented.
        • Should meet targets even under minimum supervision.
        • Should be self-motivated.
        •  Ability to read drawings, plans and blueprints.

        Duties and Responsibilities

        • Carrying out brickwork, stonework or similar materials to build residential and commercial buildings.
        • Reading and interpreting sketches and blueprints.
        • Restoring, cleaning or painting existing brick structures.
        • Pour and construct reinforced concrete including pre-cast and prefabricated structures.
        • Report on progress to Supervisor.

                     4. VICE-CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE

        SECURITY SECTION

        4.1 Security Officer (1 Post) 

                                 Qualifications

        • A Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Administration or Social Sciences from a recognised university;
        •  A Diploma in Security/Risk Management, Police Studies or equivalent from a recognised institution of higher learning is an added advantage;

                               

                                Experience and Qualities

        • At least five (5) years relevant post qualification experience in a security setting.
        • Clean criminal record.
        • Ability to write reports.
        • Ability to work beyond normal working hours where necessary.
        • Problem solving skills.
        • Computer literate.                                       

                                 Duties and Responsibilities

        • Conduct surveillance and random checks on security members.
        • Check compliance to stipulated deployment times and point of duty.
        • Inspect security features, installations and programs for compliance.
        • Gather, preserve, and present evidence in criminal trials and disciplinary hearings.
        • Maintain weekly, monthly, and annual crime report database.
        • Guide and lead teams in operations and enforce discipline in the security department.
        • Formulate, implement, and evaluate security risk management strategies.
        • Design and enforce university security policies/procedures.
        • Ensure procedures are followed in the use, movement and disposal of property.
        • Advise management and investigate significant threats and loss of assets.
        • Investigate criminal and University statutory violations and compile dockets.
        • Participate in the University Committees as appointed from time to time.
        • Liaise with stakeholders in handling safety and security matters on campus.

         

        5.                  REGISTRAR’S DEPARTMENT

                                5.1.  Personal Assistant (1 Post)

                                 Qualifications

        •  Higher National Diploma in Office Management from a recognised institution.
        • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Office Management, Business Management or Administration from a recognised institution will be an added advantage. 

                               Experience and Qualities

        •  A minimum of five (5) years post qualification experience in a similar position preferably in a University setting.
        • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher.
        • Able to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
        • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
        • Good organisational skills, be able to plan, manage and co-ordinate the Registrar’s diary.
        • Ability to handle confidential matters.
        • Reliability, loyalty and dedication are essential qualities.
        • Excellent attention to detail, including proof reading skills and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.                                       

                                 Duties and Responsibilities

        •  Acts as first point of contact for the Registrar’s Office and manages communication, including highly confidential information.
        • Produces quality reports, presentations, letters and memoranda.
        • Manages the Registrar’s itinerary.
        • Collates relevant papers and documents in preparation for scheduled meetings.
        • Manages a systematic manual and electronic records management system. 

         

                   5.2.  Central Services and Landscaping Supervisor (1 Post)

                                 Qualifications

        • A first degree in Management or a related field

                               Experience and Qualities

        • At least two (2) years post qualification experience in central services and landscaping.
        • Good team player.
        • Excellent communication, verbal and interpersonal skills.                                   

                                 Duties and Responsibilities

        •  Acts as first point of contact for the Registrar’s Office and manages communication, including highly confidential information.
        • Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
        • Planning and coordinating delivery of the central services and landscaping in a way that meets the requirements of the University.
        • Supervises distribution of incoming and outgoing mail.
        • Coordinate repairs of student furniture.
        • Management and allocation of duties to the central services and landscaping staff.
        • Regular checking of all internal areas in order to ensure that they are cleaned and the grounds are maintained to the required standard.
        • Provide safe custody of the keys of the premises.
        • Ensure that adequate supplies of cleaning consumables and materials are ordered and that appropriate stock levels are maintained within the budget allocated.
        • Ensure that cleaning consumables and materials are properly and safely stored.
        • Ensure that cleaning and landscaping equipment is kept in good condition and properly and safely used and stored.
        • Ensure that all cleaning and maintenance staff wear the appropriate personal protective equipment and work wear when carrying out cleaning duties.
        • Redeploy staff and reschedule cleaning and landscaping activities to cover for staff absences.
        • Supervises cleaning of offices, kitchen, corridors, toilets, and workshop venues.
        • Ensuring hygienic standard of facilities at all the times.
